Spirituality

At Alive to Thrive Wellness, we offer an integrated Christian faith approach to counseling for clients who are seeking this. Heather, owner and founder of Alive to Thrive Wellness, believes that mental health and faith can (and should) co-exist. Yes, you can believe in Jesus and see a mental health counselor. The bible tells us that we will face trials of many kinds (James 1:2), and it also says that safety is found in counselors (Proverbs 11:14).

You may have faced trials that have tested, and even caused you to question, your faith. Maybe this involved a violation of your boundaries, or a traumatic event. Maybe you are experiencing anxious thoughts or feelings, and want to process with a Christian perspective. You should know that experiencing mental health issues does not mean that you are broken. Research on things like anxiety and trauma shows that our brain and body are created to do whatever it thinks is going to help us survive. Sometimes this can lead to unhelpful ways of coping that we need help rewiring. This is where faith and mental health connect. We can use science and evidence-based treatments, while also allowing Jesus to do “exceedingly more than we can ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20) in our pursuit of thriving.

A non-denominational Christian for over 10 years, Heather believes that the foundation for healing begins when a safe space is created. With this, she allows clients to guide how much faith should be integrated into sessions. Whether you desire to discuss your faith during every session, or prefer just to bring this up as it seems applicable, you get to decide! You will never be forced to discuss your faith, and Heather will be there as a support should you choose to do so. Of course, some topics may be better suited to discuss with a Pastor or other leader in your faith community. In these instances, a referral may be provided.
